Indians who have not paid a bribe, please be counted

There is a need for changes in the system to eliminate bribes and also a need to change our mindsets. we should start refusing bribes for the smaller things, automatically the bigger things will follow. It just like chisling away at a big boulder, after lot of efforts it does break into pieces.

Indians who have not paid a bribe, please be counted

Thanks Divya and Ether for your comments, this blog was not targetted against proviing anybody wrong. I feel bad that I have to pay a bribe most of the times I have to get a work done but that is the way the system is designed. The system has to be changed until then we have to pay a bribe if we have to get a work done within the specified period of time. I remember in 1992 when my father expired I applied for the death certificate and had to wai for six months to get it because I was not willing to pay a bribe. I could afford it because neither my father had any property settlement nor any pension transfer. What would happen to a middle class old aged lady who is dependant on her husband's pension? If she has to get the death certificate she has to pay up the required bribe or be ready to starve to death, no amount of screaming or talking lofty ideals before the thick skinned state government servant is going to be of any avail. Last year, I lost my mobile and wanted to block the number so that it is not misused by some terrorist. The mobile operator agreed to do so but asked me to deposit a copy of the FIR within 12 hours. It was almost 9pm to register a complaint, the cops started asking me all sort of funny questions though I showed him the original receipt and even the cartoon box. What could I do to prove that the mobile lost was actually the one mentioned in the receipt? I cannot risk not lodging a complaint because tommorrow some terrorist or theif misuses the number, for trying to be honest, I will have to cool my heels with the cops even if it is for a few days. Bangalore Traffic Police has a website facility for lodging complaints. Last one month I have lodged 6 complaints about a gas agency encroaching footpath for storing gas cylinders next to an electric pole. No action has been taken though they advertise that action they will get back within 24 hours. I tried 8 times to convert a learner licence to a driving licence permanent without paying a bribe. I could not take my wife on my bike because legally I was not entitled and if the cops catch me they could fine me. Finally I got a DL by the usual route. It is easy to talk about lofty ideals, I am equally proud of my freedom fighters. Even my grandfather was a freedom fighter and deported to Burma never to come back. That is not the issue, we have to live survive and grow and for failing to feed a few mongrels who are hungry for bribe nobody would like to sacrifice on moving ahead in life

The Suitable Match

very well written, liked this it was a defeat for him, but he had overcome it and was now set to start a new life, with his self chosen bride. Maybe Maha was right, he is marrying someone who trusted him in all respects which is what is most important. and also when maha appears
