the last ball of the semi-finals when all the fielders were on one side and patil after sneaking it all of the players ran towards the pavilion... those were the days indeed

Well, my dad had 'brought on rent' a color TV set that day - and I can relive every moment of that match - even Vengsarkar looking out from Balcony, not playing!!

And Dickie Bird - wow - what a name to have; and what a wonderful umpire! What a breed they were - And do you remember that talk down to pavilion one west Indian spectator had with Andy Roberts when he got out? That turning point, where Kapil took that wonderful catch off Viv Richards?

Well there were more than 25 people in the family, and racus created was too much - we forced open the shop opposite, and that fellow was so sweet that he distributed all the sweets free to all of us....

But the best was how England took the Semifinal defeat in their stride - I still remember Bob Willis's team - not letting that one run to be hit and when we won the match, but not a frown on his face; and all 4's on the ground in single over, by Sandeep Patil; without his partnership with Yashpal, where we would be?

Mohinder Amaranth – Eternal Comeback man, who had the guts to call the selectors a bunch of jokers! Batsmen would either yawn or go asleep before they could think they could get the ball to hit with their bat; but it would instead to go it the wicket or a c & b chance to Kirry!!

Madan Lal , Balwinder Singh Sandhu ; we know talk about fast bowlers “hunting in pairs” but call these bowlers “bits n pieces?”

1985 – I still remember that stroll around the ground spilling champagne, Audi Car, and Champion of Champions, Ravi Shastri – Shared memories, and Nostaliga…

As with life, cricket is all about "Partnerships" - yes, single genius can win matches too, but to win a tournament like World Cup, you need a firm leader, self-belief, and a team, which follows the leader, and most of all unity of purpose & command...

Who can forget those stumpings and catches by Kirry & wickets taken by Binny? You call them all bits & pieces players? Where are we now? Stage managed "Cry-Make-Up & Hug-then-go& talk on stupid talk shows" to earn more money 20/20??

Old world charm, and values, hold their charm - that is sports - needs no language, and is universal.....if played on a level palying field, and with a sporting spirit, and one sticks to the rule...

Nice Post

AD

The 175 run innings by Kapil is etched in memory forever.
Kapil ka jawaab nahin.....(just as shaving cream ka jawaab
nahin).

part of your post (As for me and my cricket team, from that day onwards, nobody dared to admonish us for playing cricket on the streets) took me to Chetan Bhagat's recent "The three mistakes of my life..."

thanks for the exhaustive post...
