In the past 4 years, cricket lovers across the world have been witness to the retirements of Steve Waugh, Warne, Mcgrath and Gilchrist. The entire stadium stood up to see off their heroes, the families were part of it and it was such a nostalgic event. All these cricketers announced their retirement when they got the whiff of their presence in the team being questioned. Warne, in fact went when people were asking why?
I have been following Indian cricket for the past two decades. Except Sunil Gavaskar no other Indian cricketer has had a graceful exit from the game. He did retire from test cricket in grand style with a classy 90 plus against Pakistan on an exploding Bangalore pitch. Even the great Kapil Dev had to be compelled to announce his retirement. The other legendary cricketers had to be dropped from the team and later they announced their retirement.
The famous five of Indian Cricket viz, Sachin, Kumble, Dravid, Saurav and VVS Lakshman are due for retirement in the near future. At some point of time they have to realize that they maybe blocking the way of many a talented youngsters. Somebody like Yuvraj and Kaif have waited ages to find a permanent place in the team. There may be a dip in the team’s performance once these legends call it a day but it will only be temporary. They have achieved enough in terms of fame and money. When the annals of cricket are written, these five legends will be in the top half of it. One can only hope these famous and celebrated cricketers do retire in a grand style and before the entire country starts asking when? Let the fans get a feel how it is to see a few legends retire.

A very good observation amb !! I also follow cricket very keenly !
The reason should not be very difficult to find ! Because we are more adapt in other game also rather than confining to cricket only !!
Yeah the game of politics is very much rampant everywhwere and that is the root cause of all our malady in sports !! Be it cricket , hockey or anything else !!

Sudhaji, these people feel that no deserving youngsters are there to take their place when the truth is when they started off the same was held against them also. Nobody can become classy overnight

Well said.I agree with u, that with grace, the Australians retired. And u know in 84, one single day, 3 legends retired, Lillee, Greg Chappell and Rodney Marsh. For a short while, it took some time for the Aussies tio come to terms, byt they came back to win the 87 world cup, and rebuilt their team.

Cricket today mean Money... BCCI is milking it aggressively. It is being treated like a Golden egg laying goose.. and BCCI is cutting its stomach to take out all eggs at once and hencce IPL, T20 world cups, too many one-dayers, Test matches.... BCCI and ICC administrators are minting money... Hence cricketers think that they can NEVER become BCCI president (being reserved to politicians that too corrupt type) hence they want to make money as long as they play...
Match fixing is also result of this!
Of late cricket is no more game it is a glamour business... cricket+Bollywood is intoxicating cocktail for impressionable minds !! Money is integral and only the part... Hence retiring in gracefull manner doesn't fit in all these !!!!

with the money cricket assures, he must be a fool to leave. In india you can be assured of a place in the team for one year if you score a 100. why one should worry about what people think. even if you kick me out of the team, i will be there as a coach or a selector 5 years later. my conern is money and not what people percieve.
However, there were players who were always tested every innings like Robin Singh, Mohd Kaif, Murali Karthik, etc.,
